The results of the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination have just been officially released today, April 26, 2025, according to the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.

This marks a significant milestone for over 330,000 candidates who sat for the exam last year, with students, parents, and educators across the country eagerly awaiting this announcement.

Exam Overview

The 2024 A/L exam was conducted from November 25 to December 31, 2024, at more than 2,300 examination centers nationwide.

A total of approximately 333,185 candidates participated, including both school and private candidates12.

The exam is a critical gateway for university admissions and future academic and career opportunities in Sri Lanka3.

How to Check Your Results

Students can access their results through several official channels:

Online: Visit the Department of Examinations websites: www.doenets.lk or www.results.exams.gov.lk, and enter your index number to view your results.

SMS: Use your mobile phone to send an SMS with your exam code and index number to 1919, or use specific codes for Mobitel, Dialog, and Hutch networks as detailed by the Department.

DOE Mobile App: Results are also available on the Department of Examinations’ official mobile application.

Hotline: For assistance, candidates can call the 24-hour hotline at 1911.

Understanding Your Results

The A/L results are graded on a scale from A (excellent) to F (fail), with detailed subject-wise performance available for each candidate.

These grades are crucial for university admissions, as the University Grants Commission (UGC) uses them-along with z-scores-to determine placement in state universities.

Next Steps for Students

University Admissions: Students with qualifying results can apply for university programs based on their z-scores and subject streams.

Re-correction: If a candidate is dissatisfied with their results, they may apply for re-evaluation through the official process.

Alternative Pathways: Those not qualifying for state university admission can consider private universities, vocational training, or overseas education options.

Significance of the Results

The release of the A/L results is a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s education calendar, shaping the academic and professional futures of thousands of young people.

The Department of Examinations has emphasized the importance of accuracy and fairness in the evaluation process, despite delays caused by practical challenges during the marking and verification stages.

Congratulations to all candidates who received their results today!
