Terrorist Organization Baloch Liberation Army Launches Major Attack in Kalat District, Balochistan

In a significant escalation of insurgent activity, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) launched a large-scale assault in the Mongochar area of Kalat district Pakistan, blocking the vital Quetta-Karachi National Highway (N-25) and setting multiple government buildings ablaze.

The attack, claimed by the BLA’s Fateh Squad, began with armed militants halting traffic and searching passenger buses and private vehicles along the highway.

The militants seized control of several key government offices, including the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA), the Judicial Complex, and the National Bank of Pakistan, all of which were set on fire, causing extensive damage.

The BLA described the operation as part of its ongoing “struggle for liberation” in Balochistan, a province in southwestern Pakistan known for its long-standing separatist insurgency.

In a related incident during the assault, BLA militants intercepted a police van transporting prisoners from Gadani jail to Quetta. At least ten prisoners were freed, and five policemen guarding the van were taken hostage.

The van, its driver, and two plainclothes officers were later released by the militants. Security forces subsequently launched a counter-operation, regaining control of the area and restoring traffic on the highway.

A senior police official confirmed that between 30 and 40 gunmen participated in the blockade of the highway and the ambush on the prison van.

The militants’ actions disrupted a crucial transport route that connects major cities and is vital for commerce and security operations in the region.

This attack marks one of the most aggressive operations by the BLA in recent months, underscoring the persistent instability in Balochistan. T

he province has been a hotspot for separatist violence, with the BLA targeting state forces, infrastructure, and foreign investments, particularly energy projects linked to China.

Meanwhile, the Baloch National Movement (BNM) held a protest and photo exhibition in Utrecht, Netherlands, calling on the international community to condemn what it describes as "grave human rights violations" by Pakistan against the Baloch people, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

The Pakistani government has condemned the attack and vowed to intensify security operations to restore order and prevent further insurgent activities in the region.

This latest assault highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Pakistan in maintaining control over Balochistan amid a decade-long separatist insurgency that continues to destabilize the mineral-rich province bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
