The visit marks a new chapter in diplomatic cooperation between the two neighboring countries, characterized by shared religious, cultural, and historical ties.
During his stay, President Pezeshkian met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reaffirming commitments to bolster cooperation in diverse sectors including energy, trade, and security. Both sides signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at elevating bilateral trade from the current $3 billion to a target of $10 billion annually.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian nuclear sites and expressed solidarity with Iran during the 12-day conflict. President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its supportive stance during the crisis and emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
Security cooperation was another key focus, with agreements to enhance border security and counter-terrorism efforts along the 905-kilometer shared border. Discussions also highlighted plans to develop land, sea, and air routes to facilitate trade and strengthen connectivity.
A high-level business forum held in Islamabad brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries to discuss finalizing a Free Trade Agreement, further signaling Pakistan and Iran’s commitment to expanding economic ties.
Pakistan’s leadership expressed gratitude to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for his consistent support on regional issues, including the Kashmir dispute. The visit underscored a shared vision for regional cooperation based on mutual respect and longstanding brotherly relations.
As Pakistan and Iran look ahead, the recent agreements lay a foundation to intensify collaboration, enhance trade, and foster stability in a complex geopolitical environment.
