The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru Police has arrested three Sri Lankan nationals who were allegedly residing illegally in an apartment near Devanahalli, on the outskirts of the city, after fleeing criminal charges in their home country.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Iresh Hansaka Jayardhane (31, from Ratnamalana)
Jayasingle Pathirannage Sugath Sameendu (46, from Kotahena)
Jayasariya Mudalige Dilip Harishan (29, from Dondra)
The men were apprehended after a special team from the CCB’s anti-narcotics wing raided their rented flat on September 25. Investigators suspect the trio had been hiding in Bengaluru for nearly eight months to evade arrest in Sri Lanka.
Fled Through Sea Route to Evade Justice
Police investigation revealed that the three men entered India illegally in 2024. They reportedly traveled by boat from Jaffna to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, and after brief stays in Chennai and Coimbatore, they ultimately relocated to Bengaluru. None of the arrested individuals possessed valid passports or visas at the time of their detention, having overstayed their legal status.
According to the CCB, at least two of the detainees are facing serious criminal allegations back in Sri Lanka:
Vidyanagamge Iresh Hansaka Jayardhane is reportedly wanted in connection with a drug peddling case.
Jayasingle Pathirannage Sugath Sameendu is facing charges related to murder and other offenses.
Authorities are still investigating the full extent of Harishan’s alleged criminal past. Officers believe all three had sought refuge in India to avoid apprehension by Sri Lankan law enforcement.
The CCB has taken the men into custody under the Foreigners Act and is now working to identify the individuals who arranged their shelter and logistical support in Bengaluru. The Sri Lankan embassy has reportedly been contacted for further information on the fugitives.
