India to Upgrade Technical Mission in Kabul to Full Embassy Status

India has announced its decision to upgrade its technical mission in Kabul to a full fledged Embassy. This significant diplomatic move comes following a high level meeting between the Indian External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, and the Taliban Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, on Thursday.

Minister Jaishankar confirmed the decision and reaffirmed India's commitment to the Afghan people, stating that the upgrade signals a strengthened strategic engagement between New Delhi and Kabul. The move is viewed by analysts as a major step toward establishing formal diplomatic ties with the Taliban administration, who seized power in 2021.

During the meeting, India also announced plans for new health and aid projects in Afghanistan, reiterating its humanitarian support for the country. Minister Jaishankar emphasized the need to combat terrorism and promote regional stability, with the two sides discussing steps to further economic cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs, in its statement, confirmed that the transition is aimed at increasing India's operational capacity and expanding its consular services in the war torn nation.
